Hundreds of flights across the US are delayed after a major IT outage hit at least 5 airlines

United Airlines
Flights at airports across the US were delayed early Monday because of an IT failure affecting at least five airlines, the US Federal Aviation Administration said.

Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, JetBlue, and Alaska Air were affected, and delays are expected, the authority told CBS.

American Airlines also said it had been affected and that its passengers would incur delays.

The FAA tweeted an update at 8:34 a.m. ET on Monday saying: "The issue has been resolved. Contact individual airlines for information on specific delays."

On Monday, 492 Southwest Airlines flights were delayed, as were 116 flights operated by JetBlue, according to data from the Flight Aware tracking website. It is not clear how many of those delays were caused by the IT issue.

Data from departure boards Monday morning showed delays on the affected airlines at New York's LaGuardia Airport, Orlando International Airport, Tampa International Airport, Dallas Fort Worth Airport, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, John Glenn Columbus International Airport, and Boston Logan Airport.
