Food security
A new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report shows little progress in reducing the incidence of foodborne bacteria that can cause diarrhea and vomiting and lead to hospitalizations and death CDC, through its data surveillance system, FoodNet, found that food poisoning in 2014 from nine common bugs caused 19,542 infections, 4,445 hospitalizations and 71 deaths in the 10 states it monitors. Though it tracks illness in 15 percent of the population, the figures are considered representative of the country and show little movement from past years. In 2011, the agency recorded 19,964 infections and in 2006 it showed 17,432.
