Aerostats with Cameras for Internal Security Missions

Aerostats serve for various missions in the homeland security sphere.

Russia’s National Guard is planning to purchase four PA-60 aerostats in 2016-2017, the press office of Russia’s state hi-tech corporation Rostec said.

The PA-60 Dozor aerostat can operate at an altitude of 300-350 meters and lift cargo weighing up to 20 kilograms. The aerostat has flight endurance of up to ten days.

According to Tass Defense, aerostats that are being delivered to the National Guard are equipped with two video cameras to obtain both general and more detail terrain images.

Thus, aerostats of this type can be used to monitor zones under control and register violations in urban areas and on the road. They can be also used during public events.

“The PA-60 aerostats will be delivered to the customer when their operators complete their training course,” company spokesman said.
