Japan
to begin destroying wartime weapons left in China's Wuhan
TOKYO, Dec. 23, Kyodo
Japan will later this
week begin destroying stockpiles of chemical weapons left by the Japanese
military in the Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province at the end of World War
II, the Cabinet Office said Tuesday.
Using a mobile
disposal facility, Japan aims to render harmless by the end of this year about
120 chemical weapons that are being stored in the city and areas around it.
The mobile facility
had finished disposing of about 35,000 chemical weapons in August 2013 since it
began being used in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, in October 2010.
