FBI: Petraeus Biographer Had Tons Of Top Secret Docs
Well, what do you know: According to FBI documents unsealed on Tuesday, Gen. David Petraeus shared hundreds of classified documents with his biographer and mistress, Paula Broadwell, took great pains to ensure that their correspondence would remain undetected (oops), and discussed top secret information with Washington Post reporters.
After initially denying that he’d given classified information to Broadwell, Petraeus admitted that he actually had. Last year, he pleaded guilty to mishandling classified materials, a misdemeanor, and was sentenced to two years of probation and given a $100,000 fine. In January, the Pentagon said it would follow the Army’s recommendation and closed the case without any further charges, allowing Petraeus, who retired from the Army in 2011, to keep his four-star rank and $220,000 pension, which should make that $100,000 fine pretty easy to pay off.
