Washington, D.C., Transit Officer Charged With Trying to Help Islamic State

Law-enforcement officers work outside the home of Nicholas Young, a Metro Transit Police Department officer, in Fairfax, Va. Mr. Young was arrested at Metro's headquarters in Washington.
A longtime police officer for the Washington, D.C., metro system has been arrested on charges he tried to help Islamic State communicate with recruits, the first time a U.S. law-enforcement officer has been charged with supporting terrorism, officials said.
Nicholas Young, 36, who joined the Metro Transit Police Department in 2003, was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a result of a sting operation in which he thought he was helping the terror group, but had actually been communicating with an undercover officer, officials said.
