Nearly eight years ago, the Pentagon faced an embarrassing scandal: The military flew a B-52 Stratofortress from Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana while accidentally carrying nuclear warheads, prompting an investigation that resulted in the firing of Air Force Secretary Michael W. Wynne and the Air Force chief of staff, Gen. T. Michael “Buzz” Moseley.
